Bad news - Potential new host switch.

Heard from a developer who I believe is the owner of the extreme addict server. He told me that VRocker might be planning on switching his hosting location from France to London, they're not that far apart from my knowledge.

If we do change the IP the main problem will probably be the download files and the fact that I am not sure everyone uses the internet list (also I am not sure if you would have to re-download rel003 (can anyone confirm)). I believe last time we cahnged the host we managed to do it, but now we got so many files lol.

This is kinda code red, I am always thinking about the worst possible outcome and that is we are forced to change the host and:
- No one finds it.
- No one wants to wait for the download.

Other things that can happen:
- The host might be worse or even unplayable (who knows, hopefully it won't be).

What you guys need to do to ensure this goes smoothly in case it happens:
- Be on the server, download all the files and just try to get it populated to encourage newbies to join it and download the files.
- Download the current storage files and post a link on the forum and help each other with a direct download link

What Angel is going to do:
- I'll be in contact with VRocker to get an official confirmation tomorrow.
- I'll of course talk to 4k and Flake about what to do if something goes horribly wrong.
- Patch might be delayed, even though I am so close to finishing it. I am the last cop job now after that I just need to add the rewards and messages and stuff. Kinda hard to focus on it when stuff like this happen. Hopefully it won't be the end of VKs, but I am just preparing for the worst.

This is posted right around my bedtime so don't expect any answer until the morning.

Update: For me it takes about 10 seconds to download all the files (I deleted them). The size is about 24 MB. My ping is less than 100. I know some of you guys have really shitty internet connection so hopefully this might not affect much.

Update 2: Talking to Vrocker he confirmed it right now and according to him it's a much more powerful server, but we will see.

Update 3: I've managed to update this topic 3 times without seeing a single reply. The switch might happen tomorrow at 0 am CET (midnight) to 6-8 am (which is usually when the server is offline) or at the very same time on thursday. A blank server with redirect IP will be up according to VRocker. Let's work on this together guys and make sure VK doesn't take a huge backlash from this.

lol , when server download files the IP is created in Vice City Multiplayer \ Rel003 \ Store . We can simply copy files from old ip and pasted it to new ip . But this is not big problem , The big problem is how much time it take to travel from France to London 0.o

France is near to Pakistan or London? I think London is quite far away so we here in the southern Asian countries might get even shitier ping.

Also figure out a way that the server detects if someone is downloading files or not. This might help. That the server announces the player like. You can goto vks forum to download the file and send him the link.

Well for people with modern computers, it takes about 20 seconds to download the files. But for some people it even takes like 3-5 minutes to download 500 kb. So the problem is that people might not have the patient to wait, but we just have to wait and see.

It’s because on Google they make a route for you and give the distance of that route.

It’s because on Google they make a route for you and give the distance of that route.

I was so excited that VCMP end after sawing that line "It could be the end of VKS" :V. So, I tried to open my VCMP.exe and when I checked the server I saw my ping is back with 189 ping :O. So, I think London is good for mine sort of areas. :V

The way I do things is to simply picture the worst possible outcome to any situation, assume it to be true and then I'll be more ready for what actually happens, it's just the way I am.

I am the type of person who can see like a papper being out of place and then be ready that some hitman is in my home trying to kill me or worse. How stupid isn't that, since:

1. Sweden is a safe place.
2. Why would anyone send a hitman after me?
3. It's more likely that I am completely wrong about the location of the papper.

Hopefully that brings some clearity to my topic.
