[Closed] Server Suggestion: Language accessibility for story-related jobs.

What do you think? Many Hispanic players are having trouble keeping up with the story of the Cop job, other races including. I think we should at least have translation involved varying their country. Due to this issue, many players excluding who know English will be unable to play these jobs.

When you implement GUI then we could have a menu show for all players the first time they join after the update and they can select their language. I don’t think that would be complex for the player because mostly every gamer is aware of language select feature which is common in video games.

The server is completely in English. Anyone who wants to spend 2 years translating all my 200 k text messages is welcome to do so. What I said here is that the work will largely go unused because players are simply ignoring the help messages. There is 1 small procent who will find usage for it, but they will only discover it by asking staff members. 0.01 % will see the help message.

Test this theory in the server. Ask people how to disable kill messages. 99 % of the players won't know even though the message shows every 2 minutes. Tell people to join Marcus events and they will say: I didn't know there was one, even though it spammed the screen and chat with messages for about 5 minutes.

You tell me what good that would do. Remember the scripting guidlines, I script things based on the ranking of these 3 things:
- Is it time consuming.
- Is it fun.
- Is it necessary, will it be used?

- Yes it will take 1-2 months of scripting which will mean no new content.
- No it will be the most boring thing imaginable and I will start developing suicide thoughts if I get put through it.
- No, because as I said 99 % of the players will fail to notice or read the advertisement about the command. Players need to start noticing the text messages before we focus on them reading it.

So will we have a language option? If someone else do it and I have to spend 0 % time on it then yes (which will almost be impossible if I don't give that person the whole script). Otherwise no.

Do you know why other games can do this easily? Because they design their script in a way to support it to begin with. If you don't do that and then have probably 20 k text messages, you're in for a lot of work. We can't support everything or else it will take too long. The conversation system is an example of that and it turned out to be a mess.

Re-read the topic title again. I simply said to have optional languages for story-related jobs. This would be less-time consuming then. It wouldn't be fun for the others which will break their hearts . Of course it'll be necessary if you're going to serve new content such as new jobs for players from all over the globe, otherwise this server will lack a portion of the server's population.

Or players can just open logs and use google translator.

Impossible in VCMP, but SAMP support Chinese.

You're the one who is not freaking listening. It still takes lots of time. Took me several hours to write down the dialogue for each job. One job took me about 1 day of scripting and testing.

I have said no a million times that those players won't know how to even switch language, which means that the feature will be completely useless. If you're gonna post a response to this make a good one, because I put effort into my previous reply to explain everything. I told you I am not spending 1 second writing dialogues, that's the worst part of my job and requires an insane amount of motivation which I lack at the moment. Even attempting to do this would not only bring us less content it would also make my work more boring and tiresome.

The cop job is finished. I'd rather script a new job instead of working my ass off on an old one again. I'll gladly let someone else do it if they want to. I can give them the dialogue function and they can just replace the text. I am not going to do it myself, that would be a waste of my time.

It's a shame that I don't do everything? You clearly didn't read my full post. I agreed to it if someone else can translate it and do all the work. You don't need coding experience at all to do it, it's completely stupid to having me translating something to spanish when I don't know spanish + when it takes a long time.

Is it denied because you're sure no spanish person wants to waste their time helping me or because you didn't read my post.

I can translate into Urdu xD. And can use Google translate for other languages . (the problem is... Google isn't that good lol)

Now, now then, if you're not up to it, then I'll help you translate those dialogues for you in Spanish. I've made up my mind so let's discuss this privately, especially Pavonis and Helathien who'd like to help.

why not give like 500 lines to each spanish player who want to help to translate, then they can give back to you the dialogues in spanish and you will can add it on your script

Tokisaki Kurumi doesn't get mad. If they want to help, well they might as well contact Angel for authorization.

Well not all players will get Angel's authorization , even though some can help with the language's.

going through the suggestions for angel. he says that if you want to translate the cop job you are free to do so just contact him and he will give you what you need. but this is not suggestion topic so i close it.
